THE DOLPHIN HOTEL
Designs for The Dolphin Hotel in Wincanton, Somerset.
Designs for extensive renovations at the Dolphin Hotel include these new schemes for both of the bars. The hotel was looking tired and outdated and the landlords wanted to update the interior of the whole building. The building itself is over 400 years old and has an extensive history as a coaching inn. The brief was to create a scheme that would be sensitive to the building and suit the existing local customers, while also being a destination for out of town visitors visiting nearby Bruton, Hauser and Wirth and The Newt.
The front bar is often used to show sport and the landlords asked for a horse racing theme using existing ephemera collected by some of the local patrons.
The adjoining back bar is to have a music theme with a piano and reference to Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, who were both once loyal customers at the hotel.
