BESPOKE KITCHEN

The transformation of two separate reception rooms into one party-perfect kitchen diner.

This Edwardian house in Bristol was built with a tiny kitchen and dingy dining room that just wasn’t practical for modern family life…
The brief was to transform the old space into one large area that would be suitable for entertaining lots of people. Several rooms were to be reconfigured and the kitchen would be moved to the heart of the house. The new design needed to work hard to suit a busy family life and would provide lots of new storage space. It needed to to be super practical - but most importantly it also needed to look super-cool!

Considerable work has been done to rearrange the flow of the house in this project. The original floor plan was a maze of small rooms, but this has now been simplified in to a new layout that feels less complicated. The new space is much lighter and is perfect for the family to all spend time together.

The kitchen has been designed and built using sustainable materials that will be hard wearing and made to stand the test of time. This entirely bespoke design means that every inch of the space here is used to it’s full potential. The ceiling has been lowered to create a cocooning atmosphere and the feeling of a ‘room-within-a-room’. The minimal design makes a bold statement whilst sitting sympathetically next to the original features of the house.

A large secret pantry is hidden behind one of the doors that is used to store food and all the kitchen worktop equipment like toasters, mixers and gadgets. This hidden gem keeps things practical whilst keeping a sleek and minimal look on the outside. (It is also an excellent place to hide in whilst eating biscuits! 😉)

Large windows enable light to flood into the space and the oversized glass door in the dining area brings a new connection with the garden outside.

It all started with the love of a blue tap…

Many thanks to Penroe and King for their beautiful work with the build of this kitchen!
